LATAM Airlines Group celebrated the relaunch of its Sydney to Santiago direct route, marking a significant milestone for the airline and enhancing accessibility for Australians to travel to South America. The inaugural flight, operated by a Boeing 787-9, departed Sydney with a full capacity of passengers, including holidaymakers and business travelers. The departure was accompanied by a festive send-off featuring traditional music and alfajores, providing a glimpse of the South American experience awaiting travelers.
The direct route, initially launched in 2019 and temporarily suspended due to the pandemic, now operates four times a week, facilitating the transportation of up to 1,200 passengers. Flights depart Sydney on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with a journey time of 12 hours and 45 minutes, arriving in Santiago at 11.20 am local time on the same day.
Christopher Ellis, LATAM’s Country Manager for Oceania, expressed the airline’s commitment to fostering tourism and commerce between Australia and South America through the reintroduction of the key route. Passengers flying from Sydney to Santiago can seamlessly connect to 144 popular South American destinations from LATAM’s hub in Santiago, including Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Cuzco, and more.
Furthermore, the airline’s state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner offers passengers a luxurious travel experience, with features like auto-dimming windows, ergonomic seats that recline to 180 degrees, and a revamped business class cabin designed for maximum comfort and relaxation. In-flight dining showcases an authentic South American culinary experience, curated by emerging female chefs across the region and complemented by a carefully selected wine list.
The return leg of the journey from Santiago to Sydney departs three times a week, with a travel time of 14 hours and 50 minutes. The new Sydney to Santiago route complements LATAM Airlines’ existing non-stop service between Santiago and Melbourne, which is set to increase its frequency to four times weekly from December 4, 2024.
By offering a seamless travel experience and promoting cultural exchange between Australia and South America, LATAM Airlines’ relaunch of the Sydney to Santiago route signifies a positive step towards enhancing connectivity and enriching travel experiences for passengers on both sides of the Pacific.
