Seeking advice for a first

Posted on October 15, 2015 | in Travellers Questions | by

Hello all! So the passport came in the mail today so my partner will be leaving for his first international trip in early December to Sydney, Australia from our home in California. Its a business trip so all the trappings (i.e. airfare, food, lodging) will be paid for by his company but Im wondering about some of the smaller things. Many questions come to mind, such as how early I should get him to the airport? Should I get some heavier-duty luggage? What can someone possibly do to stay occupied on a 15-hour flight? Do I need to look into a special phone plan or any kind of travellers insurance? Honestly, Im probably just a worry-wart but Ive never travelled outside of the US myself so I dont have the background to fall back on. Id love absolutely any advice yall have. Thanks!

PS – I did forget to mention that the US State Dept. did not mail back my partners citizenship certificate (he was adopted internationally as a baby) with his passport. Has anyone gotten theirs a couple days later in the mail or should I be worried about it?
