Heres the skinny, fellow travellers
Im currently living in Saigon, working here until the end of June. I have a return flight out of Phnom Penh on July 27th. I lived in Southern Cambodia for a month, but want to make time to see Siem Reap/Angkor Wat before I leave (approx. 5 days) My current visa here in Vietnam expires July 1st
Basically Im trying to figure out how to spend the ~3 weeks after my job ends to my departure. Options I have considered include: Doing a border run for a new visa and spending 3 weeks working my way from Hanoi back to Saigon before heading to Cambodia to leave. Id stop in Sapa, Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang and Dalat (roughly). 1a. Flying to Hanoi and spending 2 weeks in Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, and maybe stopping in Sapa or Hue before coming back to Saigon to collect my stuff and going on to Cambodia. Chilling in Cambodia, maybe back on the coast and then seeing the sights of Battambang and Siem Reap, etc. Going to Thailand/Bali/etc and chilling on some beaches, and generally having a fun but relaxed time. Flying to Korea/Japan/Australia/New Zealand, all places that I have friends I could stay with, but in many cases the airfare makes me think its not a great idea, as well as the higher cost of living than SEA. I wouldnt have to pay for lodging, but I would have to pay for other incidentals… that said, given enough money, I think thats what I would much prefer to do…
I have about a $1000 dollar budget. Id prefer not to spend that much. Other relevant details: Ill probably come back to SEA within the next couple years. Id like to do the full moto trip between Hanoi and Saigon within the next 3 years. I have more than a backpackers amount of stuff because Ive been living here. I either have to bring everything with me (its not tons but its not a single 65L bag either) or come back to Saigon to get it from friends. Thats not a huge deal because its only a 6 hour bus from Saigon to Phnom Penh. Im hoping that some of you might have advice or ideas. Thanks!
