Is it best to book flight and hotel separately or together

Planning a trip to the UK next June(from DallasTexas)., Ive been using Travelocity as my main source on getting a good estimate on pricing. I have read on a few forums though where Travelocity/Orbits has screwed people over on the hotel portion of the travel.
So my question is, would it be best to just book the hotel and flight separate? Or just trust the website and do it together?
