Hey guys. I love this subreddit but have never posted before. So, Im graduating next month with a degree in social work, which I am super passionate about. Unfortunately my job hunt isnt going very well, so my dad told me he could get me a decent paying job that I can do until I find a good job in my field. This job pays roughly double the amount I would make as a social worker, but it isnt particularly fulfilling. I was thinking though, since Ill be living with my parents with only a few bills and Ill be making extra cash, I should use the opportunity to travel to a few places Ive always wanted to go. I have never traveled out of the country before (Ill be going to Chichen Itza next month though). I have this idea that traveling broadens the mind and is fulfilling on an almost spiritual level even though I have never done it. Also I just think its important to seek out these experiences and adventures. I want to live a good life before I die, you know? My problem is, going to all the places I want to go (Japan/China, Costa Rica, Greece, possibly Australia) would take me several years to accomplish, even with a surplus of income. Im looking at a good 5 years or so putting off my dreams to be a social worker so that I can use the job opportunity for travel. I do have plans, while working at this job, to save up some money for some animal therapy certifications that I want to use in my future practice. I could potentially use animal therapy while working at this job, but it would probably be more on a volunteer or intern basis. My question is: Is it worth it? Do you really think my career could suffer? What would you guys do in my situation?
