I need some help on frequent flyer programs

Posted on May 7, 2016 | in Travellers Questions | by

So Im a first time traveler and have literally no clue what Im doing.

I booked a roundtrip flight from the US to Australia through American Airlines a little over a month ago. I didnt have any frequent flyer accounts yet and didnt think anything of it.

Fast forward about 2 weeks ago, some Alaskan Airlines employee came to my work, and I mentioned I have a flight coming up with them (one leg of my journey is operated by Alaskan Airlines). She said I should sign up for their rewards program because Id get a lot of miles.

So I went home and I did, and then I tried to add my flight to it but the confirmation code and flight number didnt work. I cant even view my flight status through Alaska Airlines website with the confirmation code. What should I do?

Also, I signed up for the American Airlines rewards program and I dont know how to add the flight to that one. Can I have multiple rewards programs? Can I add one flight to several programs? If not, in your opinion, which rewards system should I use?

Thanks!
