First week in Melbourne, don’t know whether to work for a bit then travel the east coast, or vice versa

So I arrived and im currently staying in St. Kilda in Melbourne, its a decent place, however recently Ive been told by a few guys in the hostel that its recommended I should go do my first bit of real travelling up Australia before finding work (whether thats the regional work or not). Im inclined to agree somewhat, I didnt work balls-out at home for months to fly here to work balls out a little more (or maybe thats the logical choice here..) But at the same time, it could be pressuring to have an epic 6 week stint up towards Cairns and the find work knowing my $5k is beginning to run thin. Have you guys had any background with this? Particularly travelling Aus before/after working for a few months here too? What would you guys recommend as Im hearing people recommend different things!

(Much like that Melbournes super hard to find work and also really easy) haha

Thanks 🙂
