Europe backpacking: is the eurail pass worth it

I am going to europe for 2 months in july, and was just wondering what your options were for travelling between countries? Im looking at just over $600 AUD for 15 days of travel for a continuous amount of time. Is this worth it? its really $40 each trip if i use all 15 days, but I doubt I will.
Thoughts/opinions?
