I am a 24 year old American male. I just recently graduated from college last December and am very fortunate and lucky to have found a really good job. It pays me really well at 85k USD annually. Gives a generous amount of time off at 27 paid days a year off plus 11 holidays. Plus is very close to where I live. In addition there seems to be room for advancement and I enjoy the people I work with. Overall I think if I were to lose this job I would have a very hard time finding something as good. The resume gap of leaving for awhile would not help me either Im sure. That being said its a boring office job with not much business culture. I could see myself leaving to travel in the next few years if no advancements are offered and my life doesnt change.
My dream for the past 4-5 years has been to travel the world for an extended period of time. I just got the chance to go to Malaga & Granda Spain, London, and Dublin after saving up while in school for years and I absolutely loved it. I am now hooked. I feel like if I dont do it I will regret it the rest of my life.
I have enough time off of work where I could travel periodically the thing is, airfare is extremely expensive! Just to go to Australia or New Zealand it is around $3000, round trip. I feel like its such a waste of money to pay for airfare multiple times to only stay in a place for a maximum of three weeks. This is opposed to paying for airfare and then being able to stay as long as Id like plus having access to public transportation which could get me to most of the places Id like to go. I know the decision is mine to make and I need to see how my job goes for the long run, but does anyone have any sound advice or been in a similar situation and had some kind of revelation that pushed your decision in one direction or the other? I feel like this is the only time in my life Ill be able to do this, at least for awhile. I dont have a relationship or any kids or anything. Granted I could travel after I retire but thats wayyyy down the line and who knows what could happen inbetween now and then.
