Advice Needed: How to Not Ruin My Honeymoon Before It Begins

Posted on March 18, 2016 | in Travellers Questions | by

Until a couple months ago, I was blessed with a job that allowed me to travel all over the Middle East, UK, India, and Australia. I have always booked my own travel plans and typically do so on the fly. I require minimal structure or planning to be at ease, but my fiancée is essentially the exact opposite.

While I want us to adventure and make some spontaneous decisions on our honeymoon in Thailand, I want her to be comfortable whilst traveling. I love traveling and want her to join me on a long list of bucket list adventures, so a positive background for her is much more than just a fun trip for both of us.

This will be her first time to travel internationally, so I want to make the process as smooth as possible. We are looking to spend between $5-7000, USD, so first class and 5-star everything is not an option, but I’m sure there are some things I can do to minimize her stress that have never crossed my mind.

Itinerary (draft):
Late June fly into Bangkok (2 nights)
Train or fly to Chiang Mai (3 nights)
Fly to Koh Samui (3 nights)
Fly back to Bangkok (1) nights
Head home

My better half has never had the opportunity, money, or much of a desire to travel until now. We both love animals, Thai food, beaches, and relaxing, so I’m sure we can build a formula for success, BUT I humbly come to you for your sage travel advice.

Any travel feedback regarding how to make this special trip easier for her in general or specific tips concerning travel in Thailand would be greatly appreciated. No advice is too obvious or basic for me on this topic. Thanks everyone in advance!

TLDR: I love my fiancée, and I love traveling. I don’t want this trip to separate the two.
