Serious advice for a first time lone

Posted on October 18, 2015 | in Travellers Questions | by

To be frank, I need to go somewhere outside the US alone. Im finally waking up to life and Im so fucking close to breaking the tethers that have held me back for so long. I dont want to visit family, I want to go somewhere Ive never been, explore, make mistakes, and do fun things. I need ideas.
Now, I dont mean to say Im throwing caution to the wind. I dont have any true desire to visit danger-zones. I do, however, want to be able to wander off the beaten path and not have to seriously worry for my life (if possible).
Im thinking Europe, South America, Asia, or even Australia. Price range is open, no more than $1500, total. Looking to be gone for 5-7 days (leave Saturday return Saturday sort of deal). Can you guys think of places that might fit into these categories? Should I plan to spend more? Less? Im really looking for seasoned advice here, guys. I hope this post fits within the bounds of the guidelines because Im 100% serious and dont know where to turn. Ill do the research on safety protocol, things to bring, etc.

Thanks much in advance.

Edit: I have a valid passport. I also notice the hypocrisy in saying "open price range" then saying "$1500"., To clarify, Id like this to be an affordable trip, but I dont want to sacrifice my enjoyment for the sake of my wallet. If need be I will postpone the trip and save up more dough.
