Has anyone ever got denied an ETA (electronic visa) for Australia

I am travelling from the US to Australia, and my ETA application was denied. I have filled out a 600 series and they have not gotten back to me yet. Ive called a lawyer and they dont see any criminal files or warrants for my name. The flight is in a week, im freaking out. Anyone have any background with this?
