Hi. Ive checked the FAQ and past post history. I hope this isnt the eleventy billionth time this has been asked, or that this post is considered low effort. I flew Air Asia X from Kathmandu to Perth, via Kuala Lumpur and checked a bag all the way through. The bag was opened and several items stolen, either at KTM or KLIA2. I collected my baggage immediately at Perth. The items were stolen after they were checked in by myself at KTM airport. Im looking for tips for an expedient and well prepared travel insurance claim. Items gone: Compact SLR, SLR and several fairly expensive textiles (really?!). Totals above $1000AUD.
I have receipts for all.
Provider is Allianz. Excess is $200AUD.
I will contact Air Asia X to report it when their service desk is open. Given that there is no guide to what paperwork to provide, I have collected the receipts, my baggage receipts/boarding passes, and will have some sort of response from the airline.
Google gives me conflicting reports about the success of claims for these sort of items. Is there an amount to claim I should limit myself to? A friend mentioned it is best/easiest to keep the claim below $1000. Is there any other paperwork I ought to provide? I can include a photo of the empty camera cases and batteries (haha gremlins. I stored the batteries separately!). Also a photo of me wearing one of those expensive textiles whilst in Bhutan. Does it matter the level of security I had i.e. the padlock? Will that make a difference?
INB4 dont pack expensive items in your checked baggage. I know. Im stupid. Of course the one time I did is when this happens. I should have bought a bigger carry on bag when it filled with the more precious valuables necessitating me checking the cameras and purchases. Harrumph.
