A friend and I are visiting Japan from March 10-13, then meeting up with a group where we dont need to worry about rail expenses. We are going from the airport to Tokyo, then Tokyo to Kyoto, then Kyoto to Osaka. Should we spend $230 for a pass for 4 days? Is a pass essential to getting around the city, or can we buy a ticket for between major cities?
