Is it all right to bring alcohol back to the US if I’m under 21

Posted on December 7, 2015 | in Travellers Questions | by

Ill be coming back to the US from China soon by flying from Beijing, to Montreal, to Chicago. I want to bring back some baijiu because its cheap, high alcohol content, and to show my friends the taste. Can I bring it back to the US in checked luggage even though Im too young to drink? Ive looked around for information and it seems the answer is no, but Im not likely to get in trouble for it. Is there a limit to the alcohol content of drinks packed in checked luggage (baijiu is around 56%)? What is the allowed amount of alcohol before I have to pay duties? Would having to pay duties lower my chances of the alcohol not being confiscated? Im going through Canada on the way, does that change things?
